What is Medical Nutrition Management?
Medical Nutrition Therapy is a therapeutic approach provided by a dietitian or nutritionist to treat medical conditions and their associated symptoms through diet therapy counseling. During a MNT intervention, dietitians/nutritionists counsel clients on behavioral and lifestyle changes required to impact long-term eating practices and health.
Medical Nutrition Management includes:
1. Performing a comprehensive nutrition assessment determining the nutrition diagnosis;
2. Planning and implementing a nutrition intervention using evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines;
3. Monitoring and evaluating an individual’s progress over subsequent visits with the Nutritionist/Dietitian.
It is an essential component to comprehensive healthcare.
