The Family Medicine Center office will be closed on Saturday November 30.

Please come and see us at the ACE Diabetes Health Expo from 10am to 2pm at The Baha Mar Convention Center.

The event is free, open to the public, fun for all ages. Come and talk to a variety of health experts, enter the grand raffle, enjoy cooking demos, fitness demos, gather giveaways, resources and information.

Come and take advantage of free health screening, including dental; vision; feet; and sleep apnea

November is National Diabetes Month in America. Many urological issues for both men and women are related to undiagnosed or poorly controlled diabetes; including urinary tract infections, kidney stones, urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, kidney failure and sexual dysfunction.

An alarming one in seven Bahamian adults has diabetes or is prediabetic.

Diabetes mellitus is a condition that leads to high levels of glucose in the body. The main source of energy for the body is derived from glucose. The pancreas gland produces the hormone insulin, that is responsible for moving glucose from the blood and into the cells of the body. Diabetics lack insulin or have insulin that is unable to function properly and this results in too much glucose remaining in the blood, which could lead to the damage of many organs.
